OxonCarts delivering a bride the green way!

You are getting married, but you want your big day to be special for the environment as well as for you and your partner.

Here are two suggestions that I have to make your special day just that little bit more special.

  • Hire a rickshaw to take you from your home to the church or registry office. This is a fun way of getting to your venue with the least impact on the environment.

Here in Oxford OxonCarts offer this service. A few other cities around the UK have this on offer, so I suggest hitting Google to see if there is one in your local area.

  • Get your guests to plant trees to create a small wooded area that will grow and mature in memory of your special day and your marriage. It will come to be a place that you and your partner visit as you grow old together. I suggest contacting your local council and ask if they have a piece of land that you can do this on. Maybe somewhere secluded? The best person to speak with would be the officer that deals with the environment.

I hope that you find these two suggestions helpful. If you have anymore eco-wedding day tips then please post them below.

Some charity shops have speciality wedding dress/clothing shops – selling vintage dresses or end of line/shop display dresses.

My niece got married last year, instead of buying various services in – friends & relatives with appropriate skills/resources provided these as their gift to the bride & groom – arranged flowers, vintage car, musical entertainment, hair styling etc. Not necessarily more environmentally friendly but certainly made the occassion feel less materialist & extravagant.

As an icebreaker during the reception each guest had half a picture (relating to Environmental concerns) from old National Geographic magazines to match-up with another guest.

What a really good idea. I guess if you are in Oxford the nice thing to do would be to ask him to ride you up Headington Hill.

The richkshaw is a good idea. It originated in India.

    Some tips:

Email invitations instead of posting them to reduce carbon footprints.

You can even ask the guests to bring along saplings as wedding presents. :-0

    Choose locally grown flowers.

Instead of a cycle rickshaw you can use a horse-drawn carriage.

    Cheers! Have a fun eco-wedding.
