Does your bum look big? Take the stairs!

Lifts (elevators for our friends across the pond) use an enormous amount of energy to help you do a job that your legs and stairs were designed for.

Next time you are in a situation where you may use a lift, why not take the stairs – just once? Who knows you might like it.

But it takes longer! – Maybe, but how much of your time do you actually spend waiting for the lift to come to your floor? Stairs are usually much faster.

Snow as Energy? Is Snow Power the Next Big Thing?

You have heard of Solar Power, Wind Power and Wave Power, but with England in the middle of one of the coldest winters ever recorded, could we make use of Snow Power?

A small town in Japan is doing just that and not just in the winter…

Check out this CNN report.

Could you make a Snow Powered Fridge to use for the next few weeks so that your regular fridge can be switched off? Just image the energy saving you would make while making use of all that free energy. Now thats low-carbon living…

Is Local Currency The Way Forward?

Lewes Pound

The Lewes Pound Launched In 2008

I was excited to hear back in 2008 of a local project in a town called Lewes.

A group of people had got together and decided that in order to support their local economy they would create a currency just for the town. They named this currency the Lewes Pound.

The idea is a simple one.

  1. Locals buy the new currency at various places around the town.
  2. Local shops that take the Lewes Pound as payment display a sign in their window.

30 or 40 Degrees? Have your say!

I received an email from one of my readers last week asking for advice on laundry. I have posted the email below, in the hope that we can find him the answer.

Here is what Paddy wants to know:

Hello Eco Bloke

Thanks for helping to raise awareness of how we can all help.

I was wondering about something. Is it best to wash my clothes at 30 or 40 degrees?

You see, when I use 30 degrees, the washing machine takes in the cold water and uses electricity to warm it up.

Aeroplanes Leave Their Mark on Our Enviroment

So, you’re looking forward to your two weeks holiday in the summer visiting the Maldives? Well, enjoy them why you can as they are currently at threat from climate change.

There is absolutely no doubt that carbon emissions from flying are having a very real and extremely catastrophic impact on our climate and environment.

So, do you want to strike the death knell for the Maldives, or will you use your New Years Resolutions to help them fight back? And trust me they are fighting back (see the video blow).

On Your Bike Mate!

Evidence shows that exercise such as walking and cycling is good for your health. Both mental and physical! And driving your car produces carbon emissions. So the basis for today’s post is simple!

Will you make a commitment to yourself today to drive less and exercise more? Think about it, you will be happier, leaner and greener!

It is that simple.

Most car journeys’ are less than two miles… Most two mile journeys would be faster on a bicycle and many are even faster by foot… It all adds up!
